A Word or Two About Me
I am a full time employee (FTE) with University Housing at the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
I graduated in May 1998 with a bachelors degree in
Computer Science. Many years ago, I wanted to be either
a Mechanical Engineer or an Agricultural Engineer, but that interest faded
as I became more experienced in computer troubleshooting.
I'm a military brat, even though most people can't
tell that just from looking. I was more fortunate than most in that I only
remember 2 of the moves that I made when I was a kid. Some day I'll find
a picture of a
KC-135 (or maybe even an EC-135) to put up so you'll know what my dad flew, the short
version is: Flying Gas Station.
My dad is now retired from the Air Force and manages
the family farm full time. A fancy title for this would be OEO (Only Executive
Officer) of the place, about 750 acres in total, split over two counties.
I spent many a summer on the farm as a kid, and miss it dearly now. All
of those summers after I turned 13 were spent detasselling for Pioneer Hi-Bred International. If you
don't know what detasselling is, ask a farm kid. Trust me, it's torture.
My Interests
- Wife
- Alisha graduated with a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) from
Millikin University in
Decatur, Illinois. She is currently employed by Carle Foundation
Hospital in Urbana, IL. She started in Telemetry, moved to
Cardiovascular ICU and Surgical ICU and is now a House Officer. We met
in high school and have been dating ever since. I finally got up the guts
to pop the all important question and we got married June 5, 1999.
- Robin
- Alisha gave birth to a wonderful baby boy
in January 2006. We're both having fun learning to be parents.
- Jonathan
- Alisha gave birth to a second baby boy
in April 2010. We're both having fun with a 4 year old and a newborn in the house.
- Computers
- My personal computer is probably the worst vice
that I have, chewing up dollar after dollar as I try to get better and
better performance. Hardware junkies will want to check out the computers
page for a description of my machine(s).
- I got a little geekier, I bought a QuickCam.
And I made it a WebCam
. It's now hanging off my linux box, so I qualify as a
dweeb.
- Work
- Housing Computing Services at the University of Illinois as a Senior Network Administrator.
- Hoopeston Area Schools CUSD #11 also contracts my services for UNIX administration
and PC hardware troubleshooting. More recently I have become involved in
their project to network the school district.
- The Hoopeston
Public Library employs me for PC hardware troubleshooting
and PC installations and upgrades.
Obviously, I've got my priorities in the right order.
